Quick Start Guide

Dedicated
Replace the existing HVE with the DS1, attaching it to the tubing. Use the Y connector if there is only one HVE.

Portable
Insert the DS1 into the end of the Portable Operatory Kit and plug the kit into your HVE tip.

Twist off existing HVE (with attached coupler)
from tubing.

Attach DS1 to existing tubing
by twisting into place.

Attach one end of portable kit to HVE.

Attach DS1 to other end of portable kit.

DryShield was designed for
safety and comfort.

This shield will protect
your tongue and cheek.

Rest your jaw on
the bite block.

Relax, breathe through your nose,
and we’ll be done in no time.

Spray air and water inside the
mouthpiece to lubricate.

Slide mouthpiece onto the DS1, using a
rocking motion until it locks in place.

Fold tail in towards the center
of the mouthpiece.

Then fold outside edges of the mouthpiece
towards the center of the mouthpiece.

Slowly insert, lining up the bite block’s
anterior edge to distal of the canine
(For kids, midline of the primary lateral).

Release the mouthpiece and let fall, using finger
pressure to adapt it to the inner cheek,
retromolar pads, palate and floor of the mouth.

Position the bite block distal to the maxillary canine,
then allow patient to rest their jaw on it.

Make sure the mouthpiece is fully adapted to the
mouth, and reposition lips as needed. Slide the
bite block distally if you need more vertical opening.

Sterilization Guide
For autoclavable mouthpieces only

Detach bite block from mouthpiece.

Scrube both with small brush (e.g. toothbrush) using
soap and water, including inside the neck and slit
of mouthpiece, invert under water and check for
removal of all debris.

Place mouthpiece and bite block in
ultrasonic solution for 15 minutes.

Rinse off ultrasonic solution under running
water and lay onto cloth to dry.

Place bite block and mouthpiece
into autoclave bag and seal.

Steam autoclave for a minimum of 121 C (250 F) for at
least 30 mins, followed by a 30-min drying cycle.

As a rule of thumb, when the mouthpiece begins to take on a perceptible tint, it is an indicator that it may be time for disposal and replenishment.
